Standout Features

Xfinity voice is part of Comcast’s family of products, and as a result has some of the best voice clarity of any VoIP service. Because the company has its own separate lines purely for VoIP, there won’t be a slowdown on your internet service while using the phones. Clarity and speed should be expected to only improve as the company converts to fiber optic cables. The high-clarity service can be linked to mobile devices by way of the app, meaning that VoIP calls can be placed and voice mail can be accessed even if you are far away from the hardware at your home or office. The service comes with a package of standard features that take a lot of the headaches out of having a phone line (anonymous solicitors, for one) and are also well-suited for residential users, who can combine the service with other Comcast offerings as part of an affordable package deal.

Integration

Xfinity Voice can be integrated to a user’s mobile devices through their Xfinity Connect App, allowing them to check voice mail, make calls, and video chat with other connect users without running up their data plan.

Users can integrate their Xfinity Connect App mailbox with Microsoft Outlook, and change their Outlook email to a Comcast email (@comcast.net) through a series of easily followed instructions found on the Comcast website. This allows for integration of Microsoft Outlook and your Comcast products.

Comcast’s Business Voice Edge service can integrate with Salesforce.com, allowing users to make, receive, and transfer phone calls through a dialer within the Salesforce app. Online guides can walk you through the process of integrate the two services, which will allow you to access all of your Comcast phone contacts through the Salesforce app.

Comcast offers the premium “X1” package for users, which integrates the phone line with the TV, allowing users to get caller ID alerts on their TV screen, play and manage voicemail on the TV, and use the TV to view pictures taken by a camera phone.

The Saver plan doesn’t have the same package of features, and only offers Call Waiting Caller ID Caller ID with Call Waiting Caller ID Blocking per line/per call Call Trace. Voicemail costs an additional $3.95/month.

Both packages come with unlimited nationwide calling, though with the saver package there are no free international phone call minutes, and you pay a fee per minute regardless of how much you talk. With the unlimited package, you have the option of adding 300 minutes to landline phones and mobile phones in around 100 countries, for only $9.95/month, and unlimited minutes to China, Hong Kong, India, Mexico, Singapore, and South Korea.

Mobility

Comcast offers the Xfinity Connect app which can be used to manage Comcast products – including Xfinity Voice - through your mobile devices. Through the app, you can send and receive free text messages to dozens of countries and access your voicemails, view call logs, and activate call forwarding.

The app uses the feature “Voice2go” to make and receive calls with your home phone number. Voice2Go also allows you to create up to 4 additional phone numbers which can receive calls forwarded from your phone number.

Xfinity connect allows Xfinity Voice to go fully mobile, giving you the ability to make and answer calls made to your Xfinity voice number through your device. Through Xfinity Connect, you can make also video calls to other users of the app without using any of your mobile data plan.

The app can be downloaded from the Apple app store and the Google Play store (for Android).

Scalability

Xfinity comes with a single phone line but users can add a secondary phone number to their account and add up to 3 additional phone lines, toll-free numbers, and virtual phone numbers by paying a small monthly fee.

For businesses, Comcast offers a series of internet phone options that are fully scalable. The Comcast Business app with voice mobility works on both Android and iOS devices and allows users to make and receive calls from the app using their business phone number. It also provides access to your office voicemail, unlimited nationwide calling, low-cost international calling, call forwarding and a number of other features. The service costs $29.95/month per phone line. It is fully scalable and new lines can be added as needed for $24.95 per line. A number of rather basic features do cost extra however – voicemail is $5/month, directory exclusion is $2/month, and having a toll-free number will cost $10/month.

Comcast’s Business Voice Edge is a cloud-based phone system that runs a business’ phone lines through the internet. The service requires a one-time installation fee of $29.95 per phone, and the lines cost $44.95/month for 5-9 phones, $39.95/month for 10-19 phones, and $34.95/month for 20+ phones.

Comcast Business PRI and SIP Trunking services hook up a centralized PBX to the Comcast network and are completely scalable as a business grows.

Ease of setup and management

Users can set up Xfinity voice by themselves, with the assistance of an easy to follow YouTube video. After ordering the wireless modem “gateway” from Comcast, you set it up in a central location in your house near where you will be using the internet.

The modem is delivered with two coax cables, a power cord, Ethernet cable, and a cable splitter. To install, first screw a coax cable into the cable outlet and the other end into the back of the wireless modem, then insert the power cable into the modem and then the power outlet. After the power cable is inserted the modem will begin booting up, which should take about 20 minutes.

You then plug the telephone cable into the back of the modem and wait until the “online” light stops blinking and becomes solid. Boot up your laptop, computer, or other device and find the network name that matches the label on your gateway and then use the password which is listed on the back of the modem.

You then go online to activate your account with Xfinity and at any time you can call a toll free number to automatically activate it. At any time, Xfinity customer service are available to help in the installation process.

Xfinity Voice Equipment

Xfinity voice comes with the gateway wireless modem and cables to hook it up to the power supply and your main device.

The only other required equipment to run the system is a telephone handset.

According to Xfinity, the phone must meet a number of requirements. It must comply with FCC part 68 rules and regulations, have an industry standard equivalence (REN) of no more than 1.0., and support touch tone dialing.

Customer service

Xfinity Voice has extensive customer service options befitting a large company like Comcast.

On the Xfinity website, there is a link for their live chat where you can speak to a live agent 24/7. There is also a toll free phone number (1-800-391-3000) where you can reach a representative, and if none are available, you can leave a message with your phone number and they will call you back.

Customer service is also available at any Comcast service center.

If you’d rather not call or write, Comcast provides a link to browse extensive forums where users discuss troubleshooting issues. Chances are you can find an answer there.

International VoIP Calls

With Xfinity voice unlimited, you receive unlimited minutes China, Hong Kong, India, Mexico, Singapore, and South Korea. You are also eligible to purchase 300 minutes of calls to landline and mobile phones in several dozen countries around the world for an additional $9.95/month.

The Xfinity voice saver package does not come with any free international phone call minutes, though you are able to make international calls by paying a per minute fee that for many countries is much less than a dollar.

If you only plan to call a specific region, such as Latin America or Western Europe, Xfinity offers special international calling plans that apply only to a certain region.

About Xfinity Voice

Comcast Xfinity Voice Unlimited is a VoIP (voice over Internet provider) service that harnesses the resources of the massive telecommunications corporation to provide phone service through users’ internet connection. They offer a host of services, including a mobile app that allows users to use and manage their account remotely.

Xfinity Voice provides a budget package (saver) with a bare number of features suitable for someone just looking to make calls by internet from home, and a more expensive option with a host of available features. Both plans provide unlimited domestic calls, though only the expanded plan includes free international calls (though only to a small group of countries).

Conclusion

Xfinity voice limited is a solid VoIP provider that can be counted on to supply top of the notch voice quality and clarity, along with great customer service.

The service seems more geared towards residential users, and less towards large companies looking to get a series of phones linked to an online connection for VoIP calls. Their price is rather high compared to other industry rivals, though for a simple residential user who mainly makes domestic calls, the saver package still comes equipped with some important features and should get the job done.

The service is best if the user already uses other Xfinity products – such as internet or TV service – and the phone service can be included in a bundled package, saving you money.
