Value For Money

Spectrum provides a different approach to their fee structure with all-inclusive features for the rate of $29.99 per user, per month. That price extends to the first two lines purchased. Additional lines can be added at $10 per line with no limitation on the call features available.

It’s a laundry list of features as well with everything you need to manage a high-volume business with a lot of inbound and outbound calls. That also makes it the perfect choice for a smaller business going through rapid growth. No matter how fast you grow you’ll always have the features you need to keep your team covered. 

Standard plans include online management, transfer, hold, 3 way and conference calling, call manager, voicemail to email, simul ringing and sequential ring, call and hunt groups, auto attendant and more. There’s also unlimited local and long distance calling, which is hard to pass up.

$29.99 per month is a bit steep compared to some other VoIP providers as there are other cheaper options available but Spectrum doesn’t force premium add-ons into the mix, giving you every feature they have available for your plan. Additionally the reduced price per user/line beyond the first two greatly reduces the overall cost as you add employees.

Future Scaling

The biggest benefit to Spectrum’s VoIP solution is the scalability. They provide reduced pricing at $10 per line per month with no dip in the available features per line.  When you’ve got a lot of ground to cover you can save a great deal of cost with that reduced fee. Keep in mind though that there are no additional features to be added – review their feature list to make sure it offers everything you expect you’ll need moving forward. There are no additional plans to buy in to in order to get more out of the service.

Ease Of Setup And Management

Setup with Spectrum is an absolute breeze. The representatives were extremely helpful in explaining the process. Because they are not a reseller and instead manage their own network you can ensure that all calls are reliable and crystal-clear. They allow you to keep your existing phone number and equipment which can be easily reconfigured for Spectrum.

A big bonus with Spectrum is that if you’re making the switch from another provider they’ll help you get changed over fast, and they’ll even buy you out of your old contract to make that change as easy as possible. Of all the VoIP solution providers I’ve reviewed, Spectrum is the only service promoting that offer.

Management of the system is handled through a standard web portal. I prefer a slicker interface but it gets the job done in helping you manage your lines, call routing and extension setup.

Customer Service

Spectrum Business proudly advertises their 24/7/365 customer service available to every customer, no matter how many or how few lines you have.  That support is U.S. based and backed by local service technicians. If you’ve got a local hardware issue they can get a contractor out to your location, eliminating the headache of trying to find an IT support person on your own – that’s convenience you can’t really buy anywhere else.

Outside the phone support their site leaves something to be desired – there’s a knowledgebase with standard FAQ data points but not much else in the way of support. With everything else they offer it would have been a cherry on top to see live chat and/or a public-facing trouble ticket interface.

Mobility

This is where Spectrum comes up short in the long game. There’s no mobile app functionality or softphone to speak of. You can access your web portal from anywhere with an internet connection so managing your business can be done from a far. You just can’t treat your mobile devices like your office solution.

On the upside you can have calls routed to a mobile device if the desk phone isn’t answered so it’s possible to avoid missed calls. You just don’t have the benefit of an app that can mask your cellular caller ID when you make outbound calls.

Spectrum offers an impressive and attractive VoIP solution for small to mid-size business that have multiple lines or expect to grow in the near future. While they’re less mobile than other solutions they’re a reliable provider of a quality service and are worth the investment.
