Talk Talk Review

Overview

TalkTalk has been a company in existence since 2003 as part of UK phone provider Carphone Warehouse. However, in 2010 it became a company in its own right. It is now one of the leading service providers for TV, Broadband and landline telephones. The TalkTalk Group now has a mobile phone service and a specific branch for the development of new technology. The VoIP package has been launched by TalkTalk Business and is sure to go hand in hand with the Internet connections already available through the company.

Features

You’re provided with a single IP connection that allows up to 750 channels to ensure that you’re never caught short or too busy to have a line free to take a call. The system is fully compatible to be integrated with your current computer software system.

An amazing and truly unique feature of TalkTalk’s service is that there is a fully owned, entirely dedicated all-IP network, called the Next Generation Network. This means you should see a reduction in call drop outs (not that there would be many anyway from such a leading company) and better call quality. There’s approximately 95% coverage of the UK, and the size of the network provides the ability to support more than 3 billion voice minutes.

You’ll have a wide range of business number available to you, including Freephone, Premium and Local Rate numbers. You can choose a geographically specific dialing code and number, wherever you are in the UK. You also have the options with your PBX interface of having PRI, or SIP trunking or both and the servers can be virtual so there are minimal hardware and power requirements.

VoIP Packages/Plans

TalkTalk offer a calculator on the site allowing you to work out whether you’re suitable for their VoIP products and which one would suit you best. It’s a brilliant way to save you time and ensure you don’t waste money as well.

There are Business phone packages that range from 5 users to 50 users and although the site recommends that if you have more than 90 users, you should consider VoIP, it is possible to obtain it for a smaller number of users.

The plans are tailored to your business needs and you can bundle together a broadband connection, your mobile phone and business VoIP to ensure that you get the best price. The more you purchase from TalkTalk, the cheaper everything works out to buy. The amazing thing is, TalkTalk really does have the technology to provide you with all you would need for your business communication needs.

Pricing

It is often said that the pricing is tailored to your business when in fact it isn’t, but in this case the pricing really is tailored to your business! TalkTalk recommends that you use the Voice Ethernet IP (their VoIP service) if you need more than 90 lines, as the single IP provides 750. You’ll need to speak to an advisor to determine exactly how much you should be paying, but, to give you an idea of where TalkTalk lands in the range of pricing for other products, here are the prices for broadband connections:

They range from a basic £4.50 / month plus monthly line rental costs of £14.50 to the high end Fibreoptic prices at £19 / month plus the £14.50 for monthly line rental.

Ease of Setup

The setup is really easy - the VoIP package is fully compatible and easily integrated with whatever your current computer system is. You can use the phones you already have, or you can buy the latest IP handsets very easily from TalkTalk. Being partnered with leading brands such as Mitel, Avaya and Microsoft for the unified communications solutions on offer means that TalkTalk really can provide you with an easy setup, whatever your current system.

Customer Support

There is 24 / 7 support on offer in the form of live chat and telephone, however I have to say that I noticed the live chat support was not working when I was testing out the product. However the phone service is great and I spoke to a very friendly advisor, whose knowledge of the VoIP product really impressed me. There is a team of 600 people who provide specialist support only for VoIP. As well as being able to telephone, you can also email or submit an enquiry through an online portal.

Bottom Line

What we’re really looking at with TalkTalk is a choice that is beneficial for you long term. The company is reputable and very well equipped to deal with new technology and develop their own. It can feel like a gamble changing over a whole comms system, but actually TalkTalk make the transition incredibly easy and smooth, and the range of compatible operating systems is great.
