Better still, the system can handle 2 virtual numbers: so users can access all their phones and texts from the same device regardless of which number they arrived at.

Integrations

Phone by Web.com is a totally self standing service that includes everything business people and those frequently on the go should require in order to remain in touch by VoIP, group chat, and cellular. As such, there aren’t any integrations supported. But for those that want an all-in-one VoIP solution that simply works, this is in fact a good thing.

Value for Money

Phone by Web.com is available for $14.99 (plus applicable taxes by state). The flat price includes 2 phone numbers: one for personal calls (Phone.com ports in your existing line so you don’t have to switch numbers), as well as another for business calls. This includes unlimited calls and texts within the United States, although roaming charges may apply when the device is used abroad with external providers. Thankfully, users are able to avoid those excess fees by simply opting to connect via internet based phone communication (VoIP).

Mobility

Your Phone by Web.com line can travel wherever you go. As experts in telecommunications, Phone.com has provisioned a service that is fully interoperable with international providers. However, the unlimited calls and texts plan only covers domestic communications. For that reason, while abroad, many prefer to switch into VoIP mode. This means that users can connect to a WiFi connection and their calls (inbound and outbound) will be free of charge just as if they were at home.

Scalability

Phone by Web.com is intended for single entrepreneurs rather than those in large organizations. As such, if you’re looking for a highly scalable VoIP solution that includes advanced features such as PBX support and SIP trunking, then this is probably not the right solution for you.  However, its more basic set of features makes it absolutely perfect for freelancers, solopreneurs, and small business owners to deploy a communications system that should have more than enough firepower for their needs. In fact, given its rock-bottom monthly subscription fee, several team members within an organization could each subscribe to their own subscriptions and the cost would still be far less than the average telecommunications spend for most US-based small businesses.

Ease of Setup and Management

Getting set up with the service is simple. For those worried about losing their numbers, the good news is that this isn’t a concern. The Phone.com team is able to use porting to carry in the phone line from a separate cellular / telecomms provider. The flat monthly fee includes a separate number for making business calls. Users can select their preferred number from a series of options. After the basic account setup process has been completed, users might want to get familiar with the phone and desktop programs and the group texting functionality. The voicemail transcription service and number blocking features also do not require any effort on the part of the user to set up.

Equipment

Phone by Web.com is a proprietary VoIP solution. This means that it is designed to run on users’ existing hardware—namely their smartphones. Phone by Web.com is not designed to be used as a SIP trunking service or integrated with a PBX system. Therefore, there is no additional hardware or switches to configure.

Customer Service

Those that need to reach out to the Web.com team for support can call their sales and technical support line which is a toll-free 1-800 number. The company is headquartered in Florida and employs a team of phone support specialists that are able to handle common customer queries, such as setting up the number, porting in from different providers, and cancelling the service.

International VoIP Calls

Phone by Web.com can be used worldwide. However, roaming charges are separate from the monthly subscription. Users that want to avoid these can instead choose to use VoIP while abroad. This will result in better call quality and more importantly will avoid excess charges.

Unified Communications/Multi-Channel

Phone by Web.com can be used through the following connection methods. All will provide the same core functionality:

  • Through a cellular network
  • Through VoIP
  • Over a desktop computer application

Bottom Line

Phone by Web.com is a fantastic service intended for entrepreneurs that want to maintain separate business and personal phone lines without having to maintain 2 phones. The full cellular/VoIP interoperability means that it’s also a great choice for businesspeople that find themselves on the go and around the world frequently. While roaming services are not included, users can simply make and receive calls over WiFi in order to avoid being hit with extra fees.
